Five Goat Statue

Guangzhou, China

This statue of five goats is about an ancient legend that tells a story of a drought in the city of Guangzhou (also known as City of the Goats, or City of Rams), causing a famine which lasted many years.  Finally the prayers of the people were answered, and clouds of rain came down, along with five celestial beings wearing five-color garments descended from the heavens, riding upon five different colored celestial goats.  Each goat came bearing crops, which saved the people from starvation.  The statue was built on top of Yuexiu Mountain in 1959 in a beautiful park to commemorate this legend.
